The Strategy and Policies Studies – SPOS 2017 Launching Conference

The European Institute of Romania in partnership with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the Strategic Studies and Policies – SPOS 2017 Launching Conference, at the Romanian Academy Library, on February 28, 2018.

The SPOS 2017 Project, at the 12th edition, involved the developing of a new series of studies to support the process of elaborating Romania’s policies in the post-accession period. Four research themes were included in the edition of 2017:

  1. The impact of Romania’s accession to the European Union on the Romanian economy. Sectorial analysis (industry, agriculture, services, etc.)
  2. Romania – democratic transition expertise supplier for the Eastern Partnership and Western Balkan countries;
  3. Romania and the Digital Single Market of the European Union. Opportunities and Challenges;
  4. Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – the impact and Romania’s contribution to the field.

The following speakers were invited to this conference:

  • Victor Negrescu, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • Gabriela Crețu, President of the Committee on European Affairs;
  • Titus Corlățean, President of the Special Commission for the coordination of the parliamentary activities needed to prepare the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first semester of 2019;
  • Gabriela Drăgan, General Director, European Institute of Romania;
  • Ioan-Cosmin Mihai, associate professor, “Al. I. Cuza” Police Academy;
  • Oana Popovici, Scientific researcher, Institute of Economic Forecasting, Romanian Academy;
  • Iordan-Gheorghe Bărbulescu, Department of International Relations and European Integration, National School of Political and Administrative Studies;
  • Viorel-Nicolae Gaftea, Scientific Secretary of the Department of Information Science and Technology, Romanian Academy;
  • Veronica Ștefan, coordinator, Digital Citizens Romania;
  • Mihai Sebe, expert Studies and Analysis Bureau, European Institute of Romania;
  • Eliza Vaș, expert Studies and Analysis Bureau, European Institute of Romania.

The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – the impact and Romania’s contribution to the field“, developed by Ioan-Cosmin Mihai (“Al. I. Cuza” Police Academy), Costel Ciuchi (General Secretariat of the Government) and Gabriel Petrică (University Politehnica of Bucharest), has the overall objective to analyze the current challenges in cyberspace, identifying threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to cybersecurity. Romania’s capacity to respond to virtual threats at both national, European and regional levels was studied.
