Launching the study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity” at the Representation of the European Commission Representation in Romania

The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was launched at the European Commission Representation in Romania, on May 7, 2018. The study was developed by the researchers Ioan-Cosmin Mihai (“Al. I. Cuza” Police Academy), Costel Ciuchi (General Secretariat of the Romanian Government), and Gabriel Petrică (University Politehnica of Bucharest), in the “Strategy and Policy Studies – SPOS 2017″ project, coordinated by the European Institute of Romania.

The event was opened by Ms. Professor Gabriela Drăgan, Director of the European Institute of Romania, followed by the official interventions of:

  • Valer-Daniel Breaz, Member of the special Commission for the coordination of the parliamentary activities necessary for the preparation of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from the first semester of 2019, Parliament of Romania;
  • Cătălin Drulă, President of the Commission for Information and Communications Technology, Chamber of Deputies, Romanian Parliament;
  • Vlad Bontea, Member of the Commission for Defense, Public Order and National Security, Chamber of Deputies, Romanian Parliament;
  • Tudor Buzatu, State Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister for the implementation of Romania’s strategic partnerships.

The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was presented by:

  • Ioan-Cosmin Mihai, Associate Professor, “Al. I. Cuza” Police Academy;
  • Costel Ciuchi, Senior Information Technology Expert, General Secretariat of the Government.

In the third section, moderated by Mr. Mihai Sebe, expert of the Bureau of Studies and Analysis of the European Institute of Romania, the following speakers participated:

  • Daria Cătălui, Coordinator, European Commission – DG Informatics (DIGIT);
  • Virgil Spiridon, Director, Cybercrime Program Office (C-PROC), Council of Europe;
  • Iulian Alecu, Deputy Director, Romanian National Computer Security Incident Response Team (CERT-RO);
  • Cătălin Buciumeanu, President, Center for Advanced Strategies;
  • Eugen Valeriu Popa, Vice President, Strategikon.
