New Global Challenge in Cyber Security Conference

The annual conference ”New Global Challenge in Cyber Security” was organized by CERT-RO – Romanian National Computer Security Incident Response Team with the support and participation of US Embassy, in Bucharest on 3 November, 2014. RAISA – Romanian Association for Information Security Assurance was present at the event by assistant professor Ioan-Cosmin MIHAI – Vice President of RAISA.


The event was held under the aegis of the European program “European Cyber Security Month” and it addressed themes from cybersecurity field like initiatives and best practices for information security, latest trends, challenges and developments on cybersecurity.

CERT-RO brought to round table discussions experts from IT and cybersecurity domains, representative people from private environment and people with decisional roles in public institutions. Among the guests were Mrs. Umemura Kaori from Japan – JPCERT and Mrs. Eunju PAK from South Korea – KRCERT.


The conference agenda contained topics such as:

  • CERT-RO in Romanian IT landscape: Annual report on cybersecurity incidents received by CERT-RO;
  • CISCO: Intelligent Cyber Security for Real World;
  • Advanced Persistent Threat: A US Secret Service Perspective;
  • HP:Think as a bad guy;
  • JPCERT: Activities and Recent Threats Observed in Japan;
  • KrCERT: Activities and Recent Threats Observed in Korea;
  • Microsoft: Reactive Security Collective Defense;
  • Bitdefender: From Ring3 to Ring0 – Xen emulator flaws;
  • CERTSign: Advanced attacks and countermeasures. Why CSOs must have military thinking;
  • Kaspersky: Cyber attacks targeting Romania;
  • FireEye: Identify and stop APT.


In the context of alarming increase of number of cyber attacks, the conference was an important event in the field of cybersecurity, discussions being held from vulnerabilities to information security solutions.
