The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was developed by the researchers Ioan-Cosmin Mihai (Romanian Police Academy), Costel Ciuchi (General Secretariat of the Romanian Government), and Gabriel Petrică (University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania), in the “Strategy and Policy Studies – SPOS 2017″ project, coordinated by the European Institute of Romania.

The overall objective of this study was to analyze the current challenges in cyberspace, identifying threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to cybersecurity. It was presented Romania’s capacity to respond to virtual threats at both national, European and regional levels.

The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was launched at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union, Bruxelles, Belgium, on November 7, 2018. The event was open by the Minister Delegate for European Affairs, who underlined the importance of cybersecurity to the digital future of Europe and that Romania is interested in working on the issue of protecting citizens’ safety in the cyberspace. The European Institute of Romania organized the round-table “Opportunities and Challenges in the New Digital Age. Implications for Romania” at the Romanian Academy, on April 25, 2018. The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field“, developed in the “Strategic Studies and Policies – SPOS 2017” project, .

In the opening of this event, Ms. Gabriela Drăgan, the General Director of the European Institute of Romania, underlined the importance of SPOS project, meant to support Romania in fulfilling the obligations imposed by its quality as an EU member state, which follow the argumentation of some elements that present the post-accession policies and Romania’s position on the European construction.

The European Institute of Romania in partnership with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the Strategic Studies and Policies – SPOS 2017 Launching Conference, at the Romanian Academy Library, on February 28, 2018.

The SPOS 2017 Project, at the 12^th edition, involved the developing of a new series of studies to support the process of elaborating Romania’s policies in the post-accession period. Four research themes were included in the edition of 2017:

1. The impact of Romania’s accession to the European Union on the Romanian economy. Sectorial analysis (industry, agriculture, services, etc.)
2. Romania – democratic transition expertise supplier for the Eastern Partnership and Western Balkan countries;
3. Romania and the Digital Single Market of the European Union. Opportunities and Challenges;
4. Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – the impact and Romania’s contribution to the field.
